In Psalm 4.7, the Bible says: “You have put gladness in my heart”
Do you want to be happy? Many people are looking for that one thing that will make them happy. Some think that making a lot of money will make them happy. Some think that getting that next raise will make them happy. Some think that more education will make them happy. Some think that becoming famous will make them happy. But God gives us a joy that is permanent. What’s the difference between happiness and joy? Happiness is temporary and is usually dependent on something, someone, or some event. Joy is a happiness that is totally independent of external events going on in your life. God can give us this kind of joy. How? A life that is dedicated to loving God, serving God, and obeying God will lead to this great joy that can only come through God, the maker of the universe, the one that is called “love” (“God is love” (1 John 4.8))
We all want to be happy. Many search for happiness their whole life, and sadly never find it because they never find God. They never totally dedicate, serve and obey Him. In Ecclesiastes, we read of Solomon who tried literally everything to be “happy” including money (extreme wealth) and women. But nothing was truly satisfying, nothing gave him a true joy until he found God. That is why he said that everything under the sun is vanity (empty) , because only God is permanent, only God can give us the fullness needed to give us joy.
Sometimes in an emergency doctors have to inject medicine directly into the heart. Spiritually, the only medicine that can give you joy is God. What is being injected in your heart? Something to think about. Luc
